FAT URCHIN HITS 5,000 GUESTS Monday 2nd February 2026
The cheeky public house and coastal kitchen, located at the heart of Jolly Harbour Marina, now one of the island’s busiest and fastest-growing hubs, has quickly become the go-to spot for residents, yachties, and west-coast regulars. With the marina’s commercial centre undergoing redevelopment and a surge of new energy in the community, Fat Urchin has anchored itself as the neighbourhood’s buzzy new meeting place. “Fat Urchin has taken off in a way we’ve never experienced,” says Alex Grimley, Founder & CEO of Rocks Group. “We knew the brand was fun, fresh, and different, but the response from the community has been extraordinary. Despite so many setbacks and bumps in the road, it’s been full steam ahead from the moment we opened the doors.”
To celebrate the milestone, Fat Urchin gifted the 5000th guest their entire meal, marking the occasion with the playful spirit the brand has become known for. Since opening, Fat Urchin has been trading at unprecedented volume, serving breakfast, lunch, brunch, and dinner in the Public House downstairs, and in the more elevated Coastal Kitchen upstairs. From fish finger buttys and crispy fish & chips to house-made seafood spaghetti, steak frites, and even the popular Fat Urchin apparel and merchandise, the venue has become a destination for comfort food, good music, and great energy.
The restaurant’s success comes despite the challenges that accompany any major launch - tight timelines, shipment delays, heavy footfall, supply hurdles, and rapid operational scaling. The team has rallied with passion, adaptability, and hard work, creating an atmosphere that guests describe as buzzy, fun, and totally different to anything else on the island. “We’ve had queues, sold-out specials, and nights where the entire marina feels like it’s heading our way,” says Grimley. “The team has handled everything that’s been thrown at them, and we’re incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved in such a short time. Everyday we’re learning, and improving - we’ve still got so much more up our sleeves.”
The milestone also marks a strong start to the season for Rocks Group, whose portfolio includes Sheer Rocks, Catherine’s Café, Rokuni, Rocks Group Events, and the new wine shop, pantry and butcher’s block, Roca - all experiencing robust demand, full festive calendars, and a thriving start to 2026. As Fat Urchin continues to cement itself as Jolly Harbour’s neighbourhood hangout, the team looks forward to the next 5,000 guests, and many more pints, buttys, and cheeky nights ahead.
